What, oh what, is a libertarian to do? Allow refugees to flood into the country and turn it into the third world hellhole they came from? Or make an exception just this once when it comes to government regarding border control?
The answer is neither.
Your opinion on borders ends where your property line ends. You don’t have a say in “the country’s borders” because the country is not your property. We are not all equal shareholders in the catch-all blob known as “America.” The solution is self-defense. The reason these European neighborhoods are being turned upside down is because their inhabitants aren’t allowed to have guns or defend themselves. Widespread looting, theft, destruction, rape, murder, etc., is only possible on such a scale because the native citizens are not allowed to defend themselves by law, and those who are supposed to defend them (police) have been told to stand down in the name of political correctness.
So if the next president gives the “OK” to ship refugees by the thousands into the US and fund their existence with tax dollars, don’t cry about the borders not being tight. They’re already open. You don’t have the power to do anything about that. What you need to do is invest in self-defense. Don’t worry, it won’t be like the Wild West movies you see on television. If a mob of refugees storms your neighborhood threatening violence, all it would take is one or two people standing up (with one or two well-placed bullets) and the mob will scatter like roaches. They will think twice about coming to your neighborhood again, and likely move on to lesser fortified, more easily taken places (not saying liberal neighborhoods, but…liberal neighborhoods). The big question is: will you be that one person?
Don’t fall into the trap of viewing “your country” as “your country,” because it’s not. Nationalist thought processes must be broken to achieve true libertarian nirvana, young grasshopper. Your property is your property, and that’s as far as it extends. Want to protect a wide area from these occurrences? Make friends with other property owners. Agree to defend each other and help if needed; get involved with your community. Don’t rely on police to help you during some sort of massive unrest; just look how well that turned out for the people of France.
This may be a sensitive topic in the current day and age where discussing other cultures immigrating has to be tip-toed around for fear of being called racist or xenophobic (even in libertarian circles, sadly) but it must be talked about because libertarians must be able to answer this question. Social justice cannot be allowed to stifle ideas, however unpopular.
The answer is not government, the answer is defense of private property.
